Samenvatting
Kinder- en jeugdpsychiaters diagnosticeren psychopathologie bij zich ontwikkelende kinderen op zoek naar passende behandeling of begeleiding. Het individuele (de diagnose) profiteert van de algemene kennis (de classificatie) om de aanpak te optimaliseren. In vijf klinische vignetten komen praktische en beleidsmatige knelpunten aan de orde. De huidige classificatiesystemen houden te weinig rekening met ontwikkelingsfenomenen. De jeugdhulpverlening is te zeer gecompartimenteerd. De overheid huldigt ‘stepped-care’: laagdrempelige toegang, dichtbij huis door relatief laaggeschoolden. Gepleit wordt voor ‘zwaargewichten’ aan de poort die bij de ‘triage’ helpen om lange, frustrerende en mislukte hulpverleningsprocessen te voorkomen.
