Abstract
This article describes the treatment of a client with a spider phobia with one session in vivo exposure. The therapist was afraid of spiders herself. She organised an exposure session for herself before treating the client. The treatment of the client is evaluated with the Fear Questionnaire and the Beck Depression Inventory. The results on these questionnaires show a significant reduction of fear and depressive feelings after the exposure in vivo session. A therapist who has been anxious herself can be a good therapist. Having to overcome one's own anxiety could have been one of the effective factors of the treatment. Cognitive change, induced by the exposure, seems to be responsible for an enduring effect.
