Samenvatting

Ouderdomsmaculadegeneratie is een belangrijke oogziekte. Vroegtijdige onderkenning, snelle verwijzing bij suspecte symptomen en preventieve maatregelen bij de aanwezigheid van vroege kenmerken kunnen het aantal slechtzienden door ouderdomsmaculadegeneratie terugdringen. Behandeling is in de meeste gevallen nog niet goed mogelijk, maar nieuwe ontwikkelingen op dit gebied geven hoop op betere behandelmethodes in de nabije toekomst.
