Gabapentine helpt bij fibromyalgie

Abstract

Onder fibromyalgie verstaan we een diffuse aandoening van het bewegingsstelsel gekenmerkt door algemene pijn gepaard gaande met vermoeidheid en psychische klachten zoals slapeloosheid, depressieve stemming en angst. Fibromyalgie komt 6-7 x meer voor bij vrouwen dan bij mannen en heeft een prevalentie van 2%. Patiënten met fibromyalgie hebben een overmatige pijnperceptie. Hun pijndrempel ligt laag (hyperalgesie) en ze ervaren pijn van normaal niet pijnlijke stimuli (allodynie). Er zijn geen aantoonbare beschadigingen van het zenuwstelsel.
