Samenvatting
Voor de behandeling van mammacarcinoom is de combinatie van cyclofosfamide, methotrexaat en fluorouracil (CMF) reeds op grote schaal onderzocht. Om de bijdrage van de toevoeging van antracyclines aan CMF-kuren als adjuvante chemotherapie te onderzoeken werden twee fase-III-studies uitgevoerd in Engeland en Schotland. De resultaten van deze twee onderzoeken, die in grote lijnen dezelfde opzet hadden, zijn in één artikel gepubliceerd in het New England Journal of Medicine, begeleid door een editorial. Het is goed te vermelden dat deze gecombineerde analyse en rapportage van de twee studies reeds bij aanvang was afgesproken.
