Verschillen tussen WHO ‘Defined Daily Doses’ en ‘Prescribed Daily Doses’ van antibiotica

Samenvatting

Op Europees niveau wordt veel onderzoek gedaan naar antibioticagebruik, zowel extra- als intramuraal 1,2. Voor het uitdrukken van blootstelling aan antibiotica wordt in het algemeen de ATC/DDD-methodologie van de WHO gebruikt. Hierbij wordt het aantal ‘defined daily doses’ (DDD’s) gedefinieerd als ‘de aangenomen gemiddelde onderhoudsdosering per dag van een geneesmiddel bij de primaire indicatie bij volwassenen’ en dit maakt internationale vergelijking tussen intra- en extramuraal antibioticagebruik mogelijk.
