Valaciclovir ter preventie van terugkerende herpes bij bevalling

Samenvatting

Genitale herpes simplex behoort \tot de meest voorkomende virale seksueel overdraagbare aandoeningen in de Verenigde Staten. 25-30% Van de vrouwen heeft antilichamen tegen het herpessimplexvirus (HSV), vaak zonder klinische symptomen. Transmissie van het virus bij bevalling is een groot gezondheidsrisico voor de pasgeborene. Bevalling via een keizersnede voorkomt transmissie. Aangezien ook een niet-actieve genitale herpes simplex bij bevalling de neonaat kan besmetten wordt tegenwoordig ook aandacht besteed aan de behandeling van asymptomatische infectie.
