Samenvatting

Thyrotropine (TSH; thyroid stimulating hormone) is een peptide hormoon uit de hypofysevoorkwab dat de schildklier aanzet tot versterkte jodiumopname en aldus versterkte hormoonproductie. Dat laatste onderdrukt weer de vorming van TSH, zodat er normaal gesproken een uitgebalanceerd evenwicht bestaat tussen de spiegels van TSH en schildklierhormoon. Dat evenwicht wordt verstoord door exogeen een van beide stoffen toe te dienen.
