De chronische patiënt moet zorg van hoge kwaliteit geboden worden. Richtlijnen worden meer en meer gebruikt als indicator voor deze kwaliteit. Echter, deze methode houdt er geen rekening mee dat 25- 50% van de chronische patiënten een of meerdere comorbiditeiten heeft.
