Behandeling van astma bij kinderen

Samenvatting

Voor de behandeling van astma bij kinderen zijn inhalatiesteroïden middelen der keuze. Als alternatief zijn recent ook de leukotrieënreceptorantagonisten beschikbaar gekomen. Met name montelukast is geregistreerd voor de behandeling van astma. Bij volwassen patiënten is aangetoond dat inhalatiesteroïden effectiever zijn dan de leukotrieënreceptor-antagonisten. Om een goede vergelijking van deze twee behandelingen bij kinderen met astma te krijgen werd een gerandomiseerd, dubbelblind onderzoek uitgevoerd in 43 poliklinische centra in de VS.
