Depotpreparaten met medroxyprogesteronacetaat (DMPA) hebben kenmerken van de ideale anticonceptie: de driemaandelijkse intramusculaire injectie is effectief, eenvoudig en omkeerbaar. In de Verenigde Staten is de populariteit van DMPA groot (een miljoen gebruikers).
