Combinatietherapie in een vroeg stadium van reumatoïde artritis

Samenvatting

Reumatoïde artritis (RA) is een chronische, inflammatoire polyartritis, met een progressief verloop, die leidt tot gewrichtsdestructie en invaliditeit. In de doorgaans korte periode tussen het begin van de gewrichtsontstekingen en de ontwikkeling van boterosies speelt een toegenomen expressie van tumornecrosefactor-alfa (TNF-α) een rol. De effectiviteit van TNF-α-blokkerende middelen, zoals infliximab, is aangetoond bij patiënten met RA. Het is echter onduidelijk welke effectiviteit combinatietherapie van methotrexaat (MTX) en een TNF-α-blokke-rend middel bezit.
