Samenvatting

De insulineresistentie bij diabetes mellitus type 2 leidt aanvankelijk tot een compensatoire reactieve endogene hyperinsulinemie. Om Bohn Stafleu van Loghume redenen faalt deze compensatie op een gegeven moment waardoor de bloedsuikerspiegel stijgt en de diabetes manifest kan worden. In een later stadium kan ook bij diabetes mellitus type 2 exogene insulinetoediening noodzakelijk zijn.
