Samenvatting
Inadequate controle van hyperglykemie bij patiënten met diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM 2) is geassocieerd met ernstige micro- en macrovasculaire complicaties. Worden glucosespiegels zo normaal mogelijk gehouden dan leidt dat tot een reductie van vooral microvasculaire complicaties. Subcutane insulinetherapie kan leiden tot hyperinsulinemie wat niet alleen tot hypoglykemie leidt, maar tevens is geassocieerd met macroangiopathie (coronairaandoeningen), hypertensie, dyslipidemie en uiteraard gewichtstoename. Deze problemen moeten apart en strikt worden aangepakt om reductie in macroangiopathie te krijgen.
