Samenvatting

Trijoodthyronine (T3), dat zowel binnen de schildklier als daarbuiten door conversie uit thyroxine (T4) ontstaat, is zóveel sterker werkzaam dan thyroxine dat deze laatste wel als een prohormoon voor T3 wordt beschouwd.

T4 (levothyroxine): in Nederland als zodanig in de handel en als Eltroxin®, Euthyrox® en Thyrax®.

T3 (trijoodthyronine, liothyronine). In Nederland nog steeds alleen met veel moeite uit het buitenland te importeren als Cytomel®.
