Samenvatting

In de Verenigde Staten is het CVA de derde doodsoorzaak. Door toename van de levensverwachting zal de frequentie van het CVA verder toenemen. Het CVA treft vooral ouderen, 75% van de CVA's en 90% van de sterfte door CVA's treft mensen van 65 jaar en ouder.
