Statines: een bredere toepassing

Samenvatting

De laatste jaren worden statines veel ingezet bij zowel de primaire als secundaire preventie van harten vaatziekten. In grote gerandomiseerde onderzoeken is de reductie van coronaire morbiditeit en mortaliteit ruimschoots aangetoond voor patiënten met een verhoogd risico. Een belangrijk nadeel van deze grote onderzoeken is dat de onderzochte populaties vaak alleen mannen van middelbare leeftijd betroffen, die reeds bekend waren met een voorgeschiedenis van hart- en vaatziekten.
