Cholesterolverlaging bij ouderen met risico voor cardiovasculaire ziekten

Samenvatting

De interventie op cardiovasculaire risicofactoren reikt langzamerhand tot in het graf. Het gaat dan ook om grote belangen. Zo is het nog steeds niet duidelijk wat te doen met de grote groep ouderen (ouder dan zeventig jaar) die een voorgeschiedenis hebben op harten vaatgebied en/of risicofactoren daarvoor. Moeten al deze (miljoenen) mensen cholesterolremmers innemen? Het is een typisch westers luxeprobleem dat onder ruim 5.800 mensen met een leeftijd tussen 70-82 jaar, afkomstig uit Ierland, Schotland en Nederland is onderzocht.
