Samenvatting

Naar aanleiding van een rapportage in de lancet over stijgende en plaatselijke hoge aantallen van fusidinezuur-resistentie vermelden Livermore et al., werkzaam in het ‘Surveillance centre for communicable disease’ aanvullende cijfers. Het centrum vergaart vrijwillig ingezonden gegevens over antibioticagebruik en resistentievorming. Negentig procent van de Britse bacteriologische laboratoria doet daaraan mee. Wat betreft die resistentie gaat het vooral om de meticilline-resistente Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
