De vrees voor het optreden van infecties bij prematuur geboren kinderen op neonatale intensive-care-afdelingen leidt tot het vroegtijdig inzetten van breedspectrumantibiotica. Het gebruik van breedspectrumantibiotica kan leiden tot de selectie van resistente bacteriestammen.
