Samenvatting

Raloxifeen is een SERM (selectieve oestrogeenreceptormodulator). Geneesmiddelen in de groep van de SERM's kunnen in sommige weefsels oestrogene activiteiten nabootsen, terwijl er juist in andere weefsels een oestrogeenantagonistische werking is. Uit eerder onderzoek is al gebleken dat de SERM's in het botweefsel een oestrogene activiteit hebben en daarmee dus de botdichtheid kunnen verhogen met minder risico op osteoporotische fracturen.
