Samenvatting

Postmenopauzale hormoontherapie heeft zowel voor- als nadelen. Voordelen zijn verminderde risico's van osteoporose en een verminderde kans op cardiovasculaire aandoeningen. Daartegenover staat echter een verhoogde kans op borstkanker en kanker van het endometrium. De invloed op de mortaliteit blijft echter controversieel. Om deze reden onderzochten Grodstein et al. de relatie tussen het gebruik van postmenopauzale hormonen en de mortaliteit.
