Langetermijneffecten van corticosteroïden bij COPD

Samenvatting

Chronisch Obstructive Pulmonary Disease of COPD is een belangrijke oorzaak van morbiditeit en mortaliteit. Alleen van stoppen met roken en zuurstoftherapie is een gunstige invloed op het verloop van de ziekte gebleken. Niettemin worden bij COPD regelmatig corticosteroïden toegepast. Hoewel de waarde van corticosteroïden bij astma in diverse onderzoeken is aangetoond, blijft de effectiviteit bij COPD controversieel. Korte-termijnonderzoeken bij COPD-patiënten hebben geen of marginale effecten op de airflow en de hyperreactiviteit laten zien.
