Samenvatting

Maagzuur beschermt tegen darminfecties. Patiënten die aan de maag geopereerd zijn of die H2-antagonisten moeten nemen, zijn bijgevolg meer vatbaar voor salmonella-infecties. Ook behandeling met antibiotica verhoogt het risico op dergelijke infecties. De Britse auteurs gingen door middel van een case-controlonderzoek na of een en ander zich ook voordoet bij infecties met campylobacter.
