Die Entwicklung des Instituts für Computertechnik an der TU Wien

Zusammenfassung

Im Jahre 1973, als das Institut unter dem damaligen Namen „Datenverarbeitung“ gegründet und Prof. Eier als Institutsvorstand berufen wurde, gab es weder PCs noch Mikrocomputer. Die Geschichte des Instituts — sowohl in Bezug auf die Lehre als auch auf die Forschung — spiegelt die rasante Entwicklung der Informationstechnologie wider. Obwohl der Rückblick auf die Institutsgeschichte nur 30 Jahre umfasst, erinnert er an einen Stand der Informationstechnologie, den sich jüngere Leser heute nur mehr schwer vorstellen können. Die Geschichte des Instituts für Computertechnik ist fest mit der Person von Prof. Richard Eier verbunden, der das Institut mehr als 20 Jahre geleitet hat.

Abstract

In 1973 the Institute of Computer Technology, then called “Institute of data processing” was founded and Prof. Eier was appointed head of the institute. At this time microprocessors and PCs did not yet exist. The history of the institute reflects the rapid development of information technology in general. Looking back 30 years of time in the history of the institute we find a level of information technology which is hard to imagine for younger readers. The development of the institute is closely tied up with the person of professor Richard Eier who had been head of the institute for more than 20 years.
