Hunting for soft antineutrinos

Abstract

The individual detection of antineutrinos has been discussed for the 0.1–1 MeV region. A practical possibility is offered by the antineutrino-inducedK-capture. With this method it seems possible to measure the total quantity of different radioactive elements in the Earth. The number of40K atoms may be obtained e.g. by counting the antineutrino-inducedK-captures on the otherwise stable112Sn atoms.
