Abstract
Office networks based on the de-facto standard of the Internet Protocol are gaining acceptance in various automation domains. This article investigates the possible applicability of such networks for control engineering tasks. A case study demonstrates how the stochastic properties of the network affect a control loop and how the quality of control can be improved.
