Summary

The authors investigated the synthesis of gammaglobulins by bone marrow cells and lymphocytes of blood in some patients with multiple myeloma and Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia. They demonstrated that bone marrow cells of these patients can synthetizein vitro a homogeneous component which electrophoretically and antigenically appears similar to that present in blood. Furthermore produces other homogeneous components not present in serum. Antibody deficiencies in multiple myeloma are due to deficit in production of the non myelomatous gamma-globulinic fractions.
