Abstract
Artificial Intelligence techniques have gained a great attention for the control of autonomous mobile robots. The application of such techniques increases the flexibility and robustness of mobile robots and enables robots to fulfill much more complex tasks. In contrast to classical reactive systems the deployment of symbol-based approaches has the adavantages of an easily understandable description of the task and the usage of additional knowledge about the robot and its environment. Furthermore, it enables the robot to reason about itself and the world automatically and to plan actions. This enables the robot to robustly react to unforseen situations.
