E.P. Wigner received the honorary Ph.D. degree from the Eötvös University and gave an acceptance lecture on the 17th November 1987. Based on videotape and manuscript sketch, the lecture was transwritten by G. Marx. He suggested Wigner to translate the Hungarian text (printed inFizikai Szemle 38/5 (1988) 174) into English. Wigner answered: “I thank you for the recommendation, it would be nice to make a joint publication.” (Letter dated on the 16th October 1988.) This is one of the last texts authorized by E.P. Wigner.
