  • Published:
Proceedings / Indian Academy of Sciences

Abstract

A new species of petrified palm stem from Mohgaon Kalan (Madhya Pradesh, India) is described in detail. It appears to belong to the groupMauritia-like palm stems. Although resembling to some extentPalmoxylon sclerodermum Sahni,P. surangei Lakhanpal andP. puratanam Ramanujam, yet this specimen differs from these and all the other known fossil palm stems from India and abroad in several respects. It is, therefore, placed under a new specific namePalmoxylon narayanai.
