Summary
The structure and development of the stem, branchlets, the branch, cortex and stipulodes inLychnothamnus are described in detail. In general, they resemble those ofChara.
Development of the gametangia was followed very carefully. It resembles very closely that of the gametangia ofChara. With regard to their origin, both the antheridium and the oogonium arise from different peripheral cells and take the place of bracts, contrary to the view expressed by Migula (1897).
