Summary
Anatomical and ontogenetic studies of the foliar sclereids ofMimusops hexandra have been made. The sclereids are found to be modified palisade parenchyma cells which elongate, loose their contents and become thick-walled although the walls do not show any stratification. Adult sclereids are polymorphic and repeatedly branched. The branches run in the vertical as well as horizontal planes within the mesophyll.
