Abstract

Extension of cholesteatome in mastoid and middle ear occurs frequently. It is necessary to know the type of cholesteatoma extension and to decide the type of surgery to be done. The cholesteatome of the ear can extend to tie mastoid, attic and middle ear. Extension to intracranial region occurs in some cases but not discussed in the present review. Nowadays patients prefer hearing reconstruction even if only one ear is affected and the operation is modified accordingly.
