Summary
A new yield condition is proposed for rotationally symmetric shells of revolution. Based on this yield condition the carrying capacity of a spherical cap under a concentrated load at the vertex is determined. It is found that the analysis based on the proposed yield condition offers considerable mathematical simplicity. It is hoped that the results obtained in this paper can be extended to the case of dynamic loading.
