Summary

(1)
The literature of surgical management of congenital atresia of the meatus is reviewed. Indications for surgery in unilateral cases is discussed. A particular group of cases complicated by infection of the middle ear cleft in which operation is imperative has been reported.

Acquired atresia of the meatus is discussed.

(3)
Surgical management of atresia of the meatus, congenital or acquired are briefly discussed. A method of breaking ‘the constriction ring’ to prevent post operative stenosis of the meatus is described.

(4)
Two cases of congenital atresia and two of acquired atresia operated upon are reported. Post-operative stenosis was avoided by the method described.
