Conclusions

  1. (a)

The test has 99% reliability if done in all positions. Hence it should be done in all positions described above and if cases show persistent deviation, the case should be referred for further investigations.

  2. (b)

In sitting position with head straight majority of cases (64%) showed deviation to right side, 15% to left side and 21% showed no deviation.

From the above data we conclude that Fukuda’s writing test is a reliable, objective test which can easily be done by an average Medical Graduate. Hence a plea for the introduction of Fukuda’s writing test for vestibular function in undergraduate curriculum is being made to all Otolaryngologists.
