The tumour-bed effect (TBE) in maxillary cancer: The role of radiation therapy

Abstract

The importance of the tumour stroma in the regulation of tumour growth and metastasis in relation to radiotherapy is discussed. Maxillary cancer is an example where radiation and surgery play a complementary role as modalities of curative therapy. Changes in the regulatory functions of tumour stroma by radiation inflicted injury have obvious clinical implications.
