Summary
A case report of a female child aged seven years having an ascaris lumbricoides in the middle ear cavity is reported. Ascariasis is very common in Kashmir valley, various surgical complications due to ascariasis are quite common in children, but no case of ascaris lumbricoides in middle ear cavity has so far been reported in world literature.
An ascaris lumbricoides was seen in the middle ear cavity of the patient, approaching there through the Eustachian tube from the nasopharynx, the Eustachian tube in children being shorter, wider and straighter makes an easy passage to the middle ear cavity. The worm could be seen through an already existing perforation in the tympanic membrane due to chronic suppurative otitis media.
The worm was removed by an aural forceps, with an immediate relief of symytoms of the patient.
