Summary

In reconstructive surgery for gaps for extensive growths in oropharyngeal regions, various methods have been used. The mucoperiosteum of the hard palate has been used for oroantral fistula and as inside lining of part of the cheek. The buccal mucosa has been used to close the gaps in the hard palate and for reconstructing the floor of the mouth. The tongue flap has been used to reconstruct the anterior and lateral wall of the pharynx. Mucoperichondrium of the pyriform fossa on both sides is used for forming the anterior wall of the pharynx. In extensive gaps the pedical skin flaps have been the only alternative.
