Apatite from apatite-magnetite deposits of kasipatnam, andhra pradesh

Abstract

Apatite occurs in the apatite-magnetite pegmatites associated with pyroxene gneisses, hypersthene granites and garnet-sillimanite gneisses of Kasipatnam. The refractive indices, the unit cell dimensions and the infrared absorption spectra of apatite show that it is essentially carbonate-fluor apatite. The mineralogical and geochemical features suggest that the apatite-magnetite deposits are igneous in origin, most probably having a carbonatitic affinity.
