Summary
The instruction of people suffering from a chronic renal disease has been neglected so far due to a lack of appropriate teaching material.
As already known from other chronic diseases, a well-structured teaching programme may increase the motivation and understanding of patients. This leads to a responsible and self-determined attitude towards the contents and techniques of instruction. The programme should provide fundamental regulations and basic techniques to enlarge the patients capability to cope with their disease. The individual needs and personal aims of the patients should always be taken into consideration by the consultant in attendance. A concept as such is to be presented in the following.
