Conclusion
The Housing Affordability Model provides policy-makers with a useful tool with which to develop policy and to examine the consequences of a range of policy options. But the inputs to the model have proved as useful as the outputs. Modelling the housing market has required the systematic unpacking of the key factors which determine supply and demand. In particular it forces the user to be explicit about any given set of assumptions in support of a proposed housing delivery programme. One is forced to abandon rhetoric in favour of a precise examination of the consequences of policy proposals.
