What is the contribution of transrectal utrasonography to management of rectal cancer?

  • Published:
Acta Endoscopica

Summary

Transrectal ultrasonography has been widely used over the last decade in the extention work-up of tumors of the rectum. The contribution of a diagnostic technique depends on its capacity to guide therapeutic decision making and enable better patient selection.

The purpose of this review is to recall the main indications for transrectal ultrasonography and determine how this technique can best contribute to optimal therapeutic management.
