Emergency endoscopy: who, what, when, where and how?

  • Published:
Acta Endoscopica

Summary

For a long time, emergency digestive endoscopy has been unavoidable, in particular in the presence of a digestive hemorrhage. Ceaseless technical progress has shaped emergency endoscopy into a highly technical medical act which must associate effectiveness and safety. The main goal of the present review is to answer two essential questions: what are the genuine and good indications of emergency endoscopy? and under which practical conditions should it be carried out?
