Rare anorectal tumors: endoscopic ultrasonography off the beaten track…

  • Published:
Acta Endoscopica

Summary

Anal epithelial cancer and rectal adenocarcinoma represent the large majority of indications for endoscopic ultrasonography in pathological tumour proctology. This said, endoscopic ultrasonography is also useful in the presence of rare anorectal tumours. Such is the case with malignant melanoma, malignant lymphoma, conjunctive submucosal tumours, linitis plastica, carcinoid tumours, retrorectal tumours, extrinsic tumoural compressions and duplication.
