On the optimum distribution of income

Resumen

El problema central de la “economia del bienestar” es hallar la mejor forma de repartir los bienes producidos por la sociedad entre sus miembros. En este trabajo se desarrolla un método que permite resolver el problema a partir de una definición de “mejor” haciendo algunas hipótesis adicionales sobre las distribuciones de la renta. Se supone que el bienestar total es una función aditiva de los bienestares de sus miembros. La elección de la función de bienestar es totalmente subjetiva. Elegida esta funciónw (x) y siendof (x)dx la fracción de la población con rentas comprendidas entrex yx+dx, se trata de hacer máxima √w (x f (x)dx con las condiciones adicionales impuestas a la renta.
