Summary

Afeasibility study of primary prevention of coronary heart disease in Ireland is described. The results of screening 10,000 adult males for coronary heart disease risk factors are reported.

Eighty three per cent of the population screened were less than 55 years of age and 86.6 per cent were apparently healthy subjects. Nearly 10 per cent were classified in the “overt” disease category, 16 per cent were classified as high risk and only 15.2 per cent were free from all the acknowledged habits and characteristics associated with CHD.
