Summary
FIVE hundred and forty patients with hepatitis, or their contacts, and 10,145 voluntary blood donors were tested for hepatitis-associated (Australia) antigen using the semi-micro immunodiffusion and discontinuous counterimmunoelectrophoresis methods. The results indicate that the incidence of the antigen in voluntary blood donors in the Republic of Ireland is lower than in other European countries at the present time. Hepatitis-associated antigen was not detected in seven faecal samples tested from patients with ‘infectious’ hepatitis.
