Abstract
The paper presents the author’s view on future antenna system requirements in communications and radar, and shows how many of these are likely to require solutions based on phased array antennas. Far from the popular concept of phased arrays as large structures containing thousands of elements, it is argued that these arrays will contain relatively few controllable elements. The key features of these new antennas will be their «intelligent» signal processing nature based on the capability for multiple beam formation and pattern adaptivity.
Analyse
